On a bright starry night, a man walked through the forest. A misty fog began to form along the ground. He could hear movement behind the trees and brushes. So he stepped up his pace, until he came to a clearing. Stopping to take a breather, the wolves came out of the dark. At first he wasn’t sure what to do. Thinking for a minute, he slowly took two steps back. A wolf to his left began to growl. He stopped and looked at the wolf. Another wolf barked, and the wolf stopped growling.
He was afraid, but knew not to run. He looked to his right at the wolf that barked. The wolf slowly lower his head and tail, and began to walk toward him. The man watched him as he came closer. When the wolf came within touching distance, he raised his head, licking him on the hand. The man had fear running through his body. But he still slowly reached out and touched the wolf on the head. The wolf backed away a few steps. The man felt so relieved, he began to laugh. The wolf wagged his tail.
Feeling this relieve, the man began slowly walking down the trail. The wolves followed close behind. One by one they came up behind him, touching him on his legs. He quickened his pace, until they were running. As they ran, the wolves began to jump at him in a playful way. Speaking to him in there native tongue.
They came to a clearing and stopped. Down on his hands and knees trying to catch his breath. He looked up and saw the wolves had made a circle around him. All at once, they began to howl, as the mist grew thicker. He began to feel strange and cold. Lying on the ground, he pulled his knees to his chest and warping his arms around his legs. He slowly went to sleep.
When he woke, the mist was gone and the full moon was shining bright in the sky. He stood up, realizing something was different. The wolf came over to him, and directed him to the stream. He looked into the stream and was startled to see the face of a wolf in the waters reflection. He moved his head from side to side to see if it was really him. Fear ran through his body. But in an instant it turned into overwhelming joy. He began to run and jump from one side of the clearing to the other.
After he had worn off some of the excitement, they went into the forest. As they journeyed, it was running and playing, along with searching for food. After some time had past, they came upon an animal. The pack backed away from him. They began to move around one another yapping. When they return to where he was waiting, they let him know, that they had agreed that he should make the kill. He was very surprised that they had chosen him. They saw in him, that he was a little nervous. So they encouraged him. When he found the courage within himself, he stocked the animal and made the kill. The wolves howled with joy.
As he was tearing the flesh from the animal’s body, he looked around and saw his brothers and sisters. They looked at him with there heads low to the ground, as if asking to join him for the meal. He motioned to them to join him. As they all ate, he was surprised how sweet the meat was. The feelings he had about the kill, were gratifying.
After they had finished eating, twilight began to show. So they all ran back to the clearing where it began. The wolves made there circle around him. All at once, they began to howl, the thick mist move slowly in as he lay down to sleep.
When he woke up, the sun was in his face. He looked down at his body, he was human again.
